my dad is just learning how to send text messages, and as a 60-something year old english major, his grammar is pretty stellar. but he threw me for a loop yesterday, ending the text with “smh”

which i looked at and tried to decode. suck my… no. what the fuck?
shake my head? really? that was used so frequently that we made it into an acronym?  who was on the internet, chatting with their friends so often that he/she was like “i’m shaking my head all the time, but i’m sick of writing it out! it’s totally practical, because of how much i say and do it during our online chatting. are you guys with me? let’s turn this into the most useless internet acronym since rofl, but i won’t go there”

maybe an emoticon with a disapproving face would do the job? because come on, if you’re really expressing yourself to others by saying “smh” … you’re not above using the ;-)
